being mounted on piers
in support of galleries
for higher realities

representing reliefs
surviving vestigially
by conferring dignities
via ecclesiastical edicts

for a time at least
between parties
of husbandry and security

lacking in ferocity
as imaginative strategies
of potential enemies

neither sudden nor complete
yet appearing more likely
to be seen with warlike
societal shortsightedness...
